Protein Rule Number 2

I liked this bit from page 9 of the Combat the Fat Nutrition Guide. I've always thought protein was important. It's also important when you take it.

Protein Rule #2 : Consume 2 SERVINGS Of Protein Immediately After Your Workouts

When you train hard with a program like you’ll be using in the Combat The Fat program, you’re causing microfibrial damage to your muscle cells.

Don’t worry...that’s a GOOD thing because you’re training your muscles to build up stronger to be able to handle the extra workload you’re throwing at it.

That repair process will help you build more muscle, increase in strength, AND burn more fat.

And IMMEDIATELY after a workout, your muscles are BEGGING for some additional “support” to begin the recovery process so they need MORE PROTEIN than usual.

While your body can usually only break down and use about 30-40 grams or so of protein per meal, it can actually handle up to about 25% of your total daily protein requirement in its “SUPER-NEEDY” state right after your workouts.

So by consuming 2 SERVINGS of protein IMMEDIATELY after your workouts, you’re supplying your muscles with the proper supply of amino acids it needs to maximize its recovery

What you need to know about Hoodia extracts

Products to control weight are numerous and every week there seems to be yet another 'quick fix' solution although the ‘Hoodia' plant could be the exception; many people are hoping this will be the answer to their ongoing problem. As soon as the word spread amongst the weight loss industry, Hoodia weight loss products started to be promoted heavily; each year the number of people becoming overweight is increasing so the market for this plant is huge. But, do you know why this strange plant is in such demand or even where it comes from?

Well it is actually a cactus-like plant with 13 species. One species in particular, Hoodia Gordonii, is being investigated for use as an appetite suppressant. It grows in the Namib and Kalahari deserts in South Africa, having the unique attribute of reducing or even eliminating appetite. In fact, this cactus is so good at reducing the appetite that it is considered, by medical science, as the most effective appetite inhibitor on the planet. This is probably why it is in great demand.

Scientists actually researched the cactus plant in depth over a period of years using volunteers to test its effectiveness. One particular experiment included a team of people from the BBC who were only given a single Hoodia leaf to eat. The entire team wanted nothing else to eat or drink for the rest of the day.

The best part about using Hoodia weight loss products is there is little or no chance of any side effect and so far none have been found. On the other hand, regular weight loss products have been shown to cause irregular heartbeats and digestive conditions. Another benefit of using products containing extracts of this plant, is that users claim they do not feel tired even though they are not eating, as it provides a normal energy levels for the entire day.

Nevertheless, whilst it is being taken, the user should still drink plenty of fluids and eat a healthy diet. The purpose of the Hoodia weight loss pill is not to starve yourself but to control unnatural and unnecessary food cravings; however, just because a person doesn't feel hungry, they still need to eat, otherwise their health will suffer. Large numbers of people are now seeing the health and other benefits of using Hoodia extracts.

Be prepared to pay a premium for any weight loss products that use real extracts as the production costs involved are high. You can find many companies selling Hoodia weight loss products online but be aware that if they are cheap, they are probably not genuine. Buying cheap Hoodia extracts is not only false economy as you cannot produce this product cheaply, but you do not actually know what is being used as the substitute.

Acne Treatment

While it's not strictly diet related, I wanted to point out that I found a great post about controlling acne, if you're interested. The whole blog is good, but check out this posting:

Should You Try Using Weight Loss Drugs?

Each year, increasing numbers of people around the world are becoming overweight; this is also becoming a major health problem for young people with increasing numbers affected by heart conditions. To cure this problem, some people have resorted to surgical measures whereas others have decided that adjustments to their food intake and an increase in physical activity are necessary. Unfortunately others that can't wait to get rid of their extra pounds decide to take the quickest way out through the use of weight loss drugs.

The drugs work by increasing the serotonin levels in the brain, making it believe that the stomach is already full, thereby, increasing the person's metabolic rate. These drugs were quickly removed from circulation when tests revealed that one of the more dangerous side effects was an increased risk of heart valve disease. Not to be defeated though, manufacturers have introduced updated drugs, prescribed by doctors but the FDA approval process is slow.

The chances are that if you asked enough people, someone will say they have used them and been happy with the results. It is a tempting proposition, to lose weight while still maintaining the same diet; who would say no? Many millions of dollars are spent each year in The United States alone whilst the drug manufacturers spend huge sums on further research into weight loss drugs.

An individual wishing to buy weight control pills can do so over-the-counter or have them prescribed by their doctor; however there are still health risks associated with their use. The harmful side effects have not been eliminated and it is possible that you could still suffer from hallucinations, stroke, tremors and heart attacks. You would need to read the user information for a full list of all the possible side effects.

Of course, many factors can affect the type and severity of problems like family history, weight, age and lifestyle; this is why it is so important to see the doctor before starting a course of pills; should you decide to stop taking the treatment, other side effects can occur as a result. The effects of withdrawing the pills are irritability, vomiting, depression, fatigue and insomnia to name only a few of the reported conditions.

Many clinical tests will show that the weight loss drugs taken to reduce weight really work but this can only be done in conjunction with a low calorie diet and an exercise plan. This type of diet requires a balance of the food groups to ensure a proper intake of vitamins, minerals and fiber, almost all of which can be bought at your local supermarket but may require a little preparation.

Exercising will need to be carried out if you want to benefit from the healthy food option but this probably needs to be worked out in advance with your physician. The best exercise plans should have cardiovascular and weight training exercises as this helps burn calories and increase the muscle to fat ratio that will increase a person's metabolism and assist with weight loss.

Losing Weight Made Easy

For people that need an easy weight loss method, the bad news is that no system is perfect; do not dismiss professional advice because it is surprising just how much help your doctor can be with information on systems that do work. There is more harm caused to an overweight person than just pride as many serious medical conditions are as a result of obesity.

There is an abundance of information about easy weight loss methods on the Internet but how many pounds are lost will depend a great deal on the attitude of the user. Before you decide on how you intend to lose weight you need to decide if it is for your benefit; i.e. to remain healthy, or is it because someone else wants you to lose weight.

No matter what weight loss program you choose, you need to take into consideration the following factors; what, how and when you eat, your behavior and the activity level you are planning to have. Many people have unrealistic expectations about how much weight they should lose every month but weight loss should not be rapid which can have a serious impact on your health.

To keep it simple, consider that a pound in weight is generally believed to be 3,500 calories and then it's easy to break down into daily reductions of 500 calories, meaning you can lose a pound in weight each week. Eating is a complex issue and although we all eat to many foods that have no health benefits, in fact quite the opposite, it is not a good idea to cut out every type of food we enjoy.

How we feel is also a determining factor as people who are depressed or are not happy about their lives usually consume too much. It is nonsense to believe that continued eating and weight gain will not have serious consequences to your health as we now see in the increase of conditions like type 2 diabetes, heart conditions and cancer. When dealing with an overweight person, you cannot rely solely on any easy weight loss diet to be a ‘cure-all' when the psychological factor has not been considered.

One aspect that also needs to be included is how the person pursues the subject of their weight loss program as those who take a more relaxed approach are usually more successful. The one thing that has shown to be true no matter what you do in life is that being positive about something is more likely to make it happen. The great thing about weight loss is the extra energy you feel and how much more positive your outlook is to life in general which obviously has an impact on self-esteem as well.

An effective and easy weight loss program will take many things into account but it will be different for every person but once the changes can be seen and felt by that person, it becomes easier to achieve.

Combat the Fat Weight Loss Program

In case you are not familiar with the "Combat the Fat" fitness program, let me introduce you. It has been around for a while, but was totally revamped in March 2008. It was created by Jeff Anderson, an ex-soldier who spent a good part of his hitch training a variety of soldiers, from the rawest 18 year old recruit to the crustiest old battleaxe.

What he has done is taken his experience, along with tons of research on fitness, weight and fat loss, nutrition, and exercise and packaged it into an easily-digestible format. This is for everyone, no matter your present level of fitness, or your severe lack thereof.

A lot of the whole military/combat theme is for marketing purposes, but it works. It gives his work a common element that is easy to believe and easy to stick with. In spite of the military theme, there is no shouting in your face, no pushups on the beach with the surf washing over your head, and no 50 mile forced marches carrying packs and weapons. In fact, the only weapon this program deals with is you as a finely tuned machine!

I have had a preview of this package and there is a ton of content. I'm frankly very surprised he is selling it for as little as he is, because there are other programs that contain less material that sell for significantly more. Be that as it may, here is what Jeff gives you:

- The main manual is very thorough. Jeff's approach involves both nutrition and exercise, which I encourage and support. He discusses eight "metabolic factors" that help you lose weight.

- There is an 87-page workout guide that teaches you all the exercises you need to know. Many of the exercises can be done at home, while others may require gym equipment. There are charts and a detailed two-week plan to get you started.

- The nutrition guide is 46 pages of knowledge about how to eat properly. Don't think "calorie counting," think "portion control." Believe me, that's a lot easier to manage! Jeff includes daily tips, nutritional information, even shopping lists. He warns against too many carbs, and is big on protein.

This program is for people who want an effective, but realistic way to get in shape and lose weight. It is not a short-term "miracle" diet, but common sense for the long march.
